Akani Simbine finished 3rd in 10.02 seconds behind legend Usain Bolt who won the race in a SB time of 9.95 seconds.

Dominique Scott will be pleased with her new personal best (PB) time of 8:41.33 shaving off over 5 seconds on her previous best of 8:46.65 but only managing to finish 11th.

Wenda Nel seemed to struggle with the fast pace of the Americans and was well of her best running 54.90 seconds to finish 5th in race she’ll want to shake off before World Champs.

Wayde van Niekerk had a brilliant run and seemed to hit the first 200m super hard breezing past Isaac Makwala, but Makwala seemed to find another gear and passed Van Niekerk at 300m forcing him to dig deep for victory in 43.73 seconds which is a MR (Meeting record). Makwala finished in 2nd in an impressive 43.84 Season best time in a close and well timed race by the inform man from Botswana.

One of the races of the meeting directly after Van Niekerk’s amazing duel with Makwala was another tight race between Caster Semenya, Francine Niyonsaba and Ajee Wilson! It was a fast pace from the onset and over the last 200m 3 women looked set to win the race with Wilson and Niyonsaba pushing Semenya hard in the final bend. Semenya managed to open up a 2m gap at the last 50m to win in 1:55.27 a WL (World Lead), DLR (Diamond League Record) MR (Meeting Record), and NR (National Record). 2nd place went to Niyonsaba who was close with the Burundian NR of 1:55.47 and Wilson with an America NR in 1:55.61!! Fantastic race!!

This ends the Diamond League races for now and the next stop will be London for the World Championships in 2 weeks time.

Congrats to all South Africans!!
