There has to be a plan for every race which an athlete is going to run. Racing can be to check your current form or just to get race fitness. The coach and the athlete need to know the goal of the particular race.

Sometimes we plan for a race having prepared for months but a day of the race might turn into something because there are environmental factors that contribute and this needs to be taken into consideration when planning.
